Canteen Assistant - $32.06 per hour

Are you passionate about food service and working in a dynamic, fast-paced environment?
Epping North Public School is looking for a motivated and friendly Canteen Assistant to join our amazing team! As part of the P&C Association, the school canteen plays an important role in providing tasty, nutritious meals to our students and staff.

Position: Canteen Assistant (Fast Food Employee Level 1)
Location: Epping North Public School, North Epping
Work Schedule: Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays during school terms
Employment Type: Casual

About the Role:
As a Canteen Assistant, you will be a key part of the team that ensures the canteen runs smoothly and efficiently. This role will require you to engage in a variety of duties, including receiving and packing supply deliveries, preparing and serving food, maintaining cleanliness, and supporting the Canteen Manager in overseeing the canteen’s day-to-day operations. You will also play an important role in creating a welcoming and friendly environment for everyone, including our volunteers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Receive, unpack, and store canteen supply deliveries

  • Assist with food preparation and ensure all food is served to the highest standard

  • Ensure, under the direction and supervision of the Canteen Manager, that the canteen is always clean, organized, and compliant with food safety standards

  • Work under the Canteen Manager to support volunteers, ensuring efficient operation during busy periods

  • Maintain a positive, energetic attitude while providing excellent customer service to staff and students

  • Ensure that you are complaint with all safety and hygiene protocols, including food handling and cleaning procedures, as per direction of the Canteen Manager

  • Assist with stock control and maintaining supplies under direction

You Will Have:

  • Strong verbal communication skills, able to interact effectively with staff, students, and volunteers

  • A reliable and proactive work ethic, with the ability to take initiative and work independently

  • The ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-energy environment

  • A team player mentality – ready to pitch in wherever needed

  • Previous experience in food service or a canteen environment is highly desirable, but not essential

  • Availability on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays during school terms

  • Food safety knowledge or willingness to complete basic food safety training

  • A current, verified Working with Children Check for paid employees
